Hair Origins
Definition of Hair Types & Origins
Various types of exotic hairs are being promoted and sold for profit in the United States. Indian, Indian Remy, Virgin, Malaysian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Russian, Mongolian, Burmese and European, Chinese etc… the list goes on and on.
My clients and customers often ask me several questions about hair.
They want to know the difference in the hair types.
It can get a little confusing when trying to choose your hair. I suggest getting something that’s best for you and your lifestyle. Besides installing hair, over the years I have found that I have explain, teach and/or school clients on hair textures. It all comes down to the type of hair and the country its derived from. The hair texture will then be similar to the native people indigenous to that region.
Remy
Remy hair is hair that is collected from one donor that has been lightly processed to modify the hairs texture. The cuticle of the hair remains intact, all the strands are hand selected to run in uniform direction preventing tangling and promoting stronger, healthier and longer lasting hair. Remy hair is considered better than regular packaged hair.
Virgin
Virgin hair is 100% natural. It has had no chemical or processing alterations done to it. Due to its completely natural state it is hypoallergenic and free of harmful irritable chemicals. With virgin hair, wash after wash the hair looks healthy and shiny. Virgin hair comes in its natural color and texture. Virgin hair comes in 1B, 2, depending on the region the ends of the hair may be a little lighter like a 4 or 6 but only the tips of the tips will vary in color due to the sun. Virgin hair does not come in jet black #1, or colors lighter than a #2. Virgin hair is better than remy. It is the best on the market.
Indian
Indian hair is one of the most universally known hair types available on the market. It is very versatile, It was thought by many to be the top of the line, but it actually has to be "virgin" (not remy), To yield the best results. Virgin Indian hair usually has a very slight wave pattern.
Malaysian
Malaysian hair is probably one of the softest of all the hair types. It has a medium density and natural bounce to it. It has a natural shine.
Brazilian
Brazilian hair is one of the most beautiful types of hair around. It is known for its full body, beautiful bounce, texture and versatility. Brazilian hair can vary in its appearance depending on it's hair donor. Most Brazilians descended from various parts of Europe and Africa, therefore their hair can range from silky to a relaxed hair texture, shiny to a low luster. Brazilian hair has a heavier density than Indian hair and is well suited for most African American people due to its versatility.
Peruvian
Peruvian hair is soft but strong, it has a light, fine and silky texture. It is a beautiful hair to use. It is straight to slightly wavy
Burmese
Burmese hair is cross between Chinese and Indian hair. It is healthy, resilient and full bodied. Not many people know of Burmese hair. Fortunately this hair type has not flooded the market. The people that do know of this hair simply love it. It is usually naturally straight but sometimes has a slight wave to it. Burmese hair is best for people of African descent and those that like naturally straight hair.
Eurasian
Eurasian is strong with plenty of shine. It is a resilient hair that lasts longer than the other hair types. It is collected from human hair donors of mixed European and Asian descent, which is what partly gives it it's strength and versatility. It is the hair that I recommend for first time wig wearers and for those who want longevity from their hair.
European
European hair in general has small cuticles making it quite fine, low in density, soft and silky in texture. European hair is usually straight or with a slight wave.
I have always been known to stay ahead of the game when it comes to hair weaves, wigs and techniques.
